The ME-88K is a compact, reference-grade active coaxial speaker with cardioid dispersion from 35 Hz to 100 Hz, ideal for general use. Its cardioid pattern minimizes reflections from rear walls. To enhance low-frequency performance, we combine coaxially aligned tweeter and midrange drivers with a powerful long-voice-coil woofer. This coaxial arrangement ensures near-point-source sound imaging with high uniformity. Significant engineering effort went into the cabinet structure to reduce nonlinear distortion. For reduced near-field reflections and high fidelity, we implemented a specialized layout for the tweeter and midrange, along with an asymmetrical front baffle. Despite its compact size, the system achieves a low-frequency cutoff of 35 Hz. A three-way MOSFET amplifier with an active crossover is mounted on the rear panel for easy maintenance. An intermittent LED indicator displays the sound pressure level within 3 dB of headroom and provides a clipping warning. When this limit is exceeded, the output levels of the tweeter and midrange are attenuated by 20 dB to protect the driver components. The coaxially arranged tweeter and midrange can be rotated 90 degrees, allowing vertical or horizontal installation. Two controls compensate for placement effects by continuously adjusting the low-frequency response. Various stands are available for mounting in integrated interfaces. We also offer a magnetic-shielded version of these monitoring speakers.
